Does Fumigation Ruin Your Stuff?

A fumigation service kills pests without causing any damage to your furniture, clothing, carpets, or other areas of your property. To eliminate the pest infestation zone, a toxic chemical is released and kills any unwanted pest visitors.

The only thing you need to do after fumigation is scrub well. This is done to ensure that the property is completely chemical-free and is safe to reside in.

However, most fumigation services are assured to leave no residue at all, so there is no need for you to run about cleaning every inch of your house, but we do recommend it just to be sure, especially if you have young children or pets.

It’s also important to be aware that your personal items may be moved to get into small corners of the property. Therefore, it is best to take a picture beforehand so you can remember where they were placed.

Do I Need to Wash My House After Fumigation?

Although it is not required, a thorough cleaning of your property is recommended following fumigation.  This is not just to remove any chemicals that may have remained in the property, but also to remove dirt, dead pests, dust, and rubbish.

We’ve given some steps below on how to clean your property, what tools and goods you might require.

Open Windows After Fumigation

Open all windows and doors to ensure that the entire house is adequately aerated. The chemicals used in fumigation can be quite strong!

Throw Away Food Left Open During Fumigation

Look for any food that was left open during the fumigation. Fumigation chemicals are toxic; to be safe, throw away any packets that were left open during fumigation.

How Often Should My Property Have Fumigation?

There is no set rule for when you should have a fumigation. However, if your home is infested with pests, there may be no alternative solution, and the modest trap you created by following a tutorial may not be sufficient to solve the problem. As a result, fumigation is the best alternative.

You may never need a visit within your property, but with a commercial facility that requires regular pest control checks for hygiene reasons, such as a food shop or doctors office, fumigation should be carried out on a  monthly basis.

Can I Fumigate My House Myself?

We already touched on this in terms of watching a pest trap tutorial to catch those pesky bugs. However, if you are thinking about carrying out your own fumigation with strong chemicals, this will be an ineffective strategy, and could be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.

While you may believe that you are saving money and time, the chemicals employed by fumigation specialists ensure that the property is certified clean and that you do not have to repeat the process. You will not have access to such chemicals.

Fumigation may require time, with the process lasting a couple of days, but this will create a long-term solution and save you money on pest control detergents that are only a short-term solution.
